crazy pants

(sweater-H&M, pants-?, shoes-Loeffler Randall, bag-Zara, cuff- Asos)
Finding this metallic sweater at H&M was like a dream come true. Cozy, oversized, asymmetrical and metallic? Perfection. I love finding those pieces you instantly know you're going to wear forever.
Style philosophy: Buy what you'll wear forever.

It's coming...

I wrote a little article for Chictopia's Everybody Is Ugly blog.
Basically I came up with 15 essential items to pack for Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.
Some of these things I'm actually bringing, others I wish was.
You can read the complete article here.

*The List*

1. Gloves
Gloves are the number one thing most people forget when packing. Bring them, or risk icicle hands (seriously).
Asos leather gloves

2. Sunglasses
What can I say? Sun reflecting of snow is brighter than you think. Plus, it's totally not cool to be showing your eyeballs at MBFW.
Karen Walker Super Duper sunglasses

3. Chunky Scarf.
Bring the warmest scarf you can find. This might seem like common sense, but that doesn't mean I can't remind you.
Tips: The bigger, the better. You can use a large scarf as a pillow or a blanket on your flight.
Ruche tubular scarf

4.Tunic Dress.
At least one no fuss dress is a must for those last minute events and parties you'll be jetting off to.
Tip: Get a dress with breathing room, it's perfect when you're feeling rundown.
All Saints Xanthi tunic dress

5.Tailored Trousers.
A pair of tailored trousers will be your best friend, I promise.
Tip: Dress them up with blouses for events, dress them down with cozy knits for meet ups and lunch dates.
Alexander Wang leather trimmed trouser

6. Long Coat.
Bring the longest and thickest coat possible.
Tip: Invest in a coat that is neural in color and simple in shape. That way you can be sure it will match with everything.
"Alexander Wang Nubby oversized coat

7. Killer Boots
Want to get photographed by a streetstyle photog? A pair of fierce pavement stomping boots is a must.
Tip: Bring a comfy pair to switch into.
All Saints Anat Chelsea boot

8. Large Carry-on.
I've been traveling with this bag for the last 6 years, it's my most trusted companion. It's small enough to be a carry-on but big enough to fit my laptop, camera, and a jacket.
Tip: Pack a change of clothes in your carry-on. You never know if your bags will arrive at the same time you do.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Standard Supply Classic tote

9. Flat Boots.
Bring a comfy pair of flat boots for walking.
Tip: Bring them in your bag and change into them after the shows.
Need Supply Tundra Brown Shearling boots

10. Sweatshirt.
Pack a comfy sweatshirt, just in case.
Topshop sweater

11. Oversized Bag.
Pick a big bag that can fit your camera, a change of shoes and snacks.
Tip: A bag with a shoulder strap will save you unnecessary back pain.
Modcloth Weave it to me bag

12. Snacks.
Yes, you can buy snacks in New York. But you also might spend all your money on having too much fun. Bring some granola bars and popcorn. You won't regret it.
Kashi Go Lean bars

13. Portable Computer
Although an IPad is the ideal personal computer for blogging on the go, any laptop will do.
Tip: Post your show review as soon as you can. The fresher the content the more valuable it is to your readers.
"IPad"

14. DSLR.
What's the point of going to Fashion Week if you won't have any pictures to remember all the fabulousness? Buy, borrow or steal a DSLR to capture all the fun.
Tip: Take streetstyle photos of all the glamorous people to share with your readers.
Canon60D

15. Knit Turban.
This last one doesn't have to be a turban, anything that keeps your head warm will do.
Tip: Use head accessories to make a statement with your look.

Fallen by the wayside

(top-Zara dress, eyelet shorts- UO, shoes-JC c/o Designer Apparel, hat-vintage via Chic Swap, socks-drugstore)
Getting the most out of your closet requires some creative thinking, but finding possibilities in seasoned pieces is like finding chocolate when you were 100% sure there was none to be found. There is nothing better than the thrill of discovering new ways to wear an old favorite.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Wardrobe
*Wear your dress as a top
*Slip a skirt under your dress to add volume or length
*Tuck or tie hemlines to change up the shape of your garments
*Try wearing something backwards
*Layer tops over dresses to create new separates
*Turn your t-shirts into turbans
*An oversized button down can make for a great skirt
*Create a bandeau out of a scarf

Do you have other ideas for remixing your clothing?
Leave your ideas in the comment section and I'll post my favorites (of course I'll credit you in the feature).

Have you guys checked out Chic Swap on Chictopia? I've been addicted ever since I scored this vintage hat. I've also been using Chic Swap to post some of the pieces I no longer wear. Check it out when you have a minute, you might see something you like.

Just somebody that I used to know

 (pants-AA, top-courtesy of Modcloth, jacket-WinterKate, scarf-Love Quote, bag-MbyMJ shoes-courtesy of NeedSupply)
I tend to avoid celebrity lines like they're the plague, but when I modeled this Winter Kate silk jacket I accidentally fell in love. After a week of inner turmoil I came to grips with the sad reality that I needed to have it.  I caved and purchased it from tobi.com last week. The lightness of the jacket makes it ideal for summer layering, it seamlessly transitions from cool summer days into chilly San Francisco nights.

Summer Styling Tips
*A light color palette is refreshing and cool.
*Nude accessories are the perfect summer staple. Go for beige shoes, bags and belts.
*Play around with airy layering. Throw on a breathy vest or a sheer chiffon button down over your romper or shorts.
*Silk jackets are the perfect alternative to blazers, leather and denim.
*Go for texture. Lace, eyelet, chiffon and silk are all a great way to add
some charming detail to your look.
*Invest in a light pair of trousers in white, grey or nude for those warm summer nights.
*Pair ankle socks and brown woodies with a chiffon dress for a sweet and easy summer look.

Art & LeftOvers

(dress, jacket, sunglasses & necklace-h&m, key necklace-vintage/gift, ring-Crossroads, bag- courtesy of Storets, shoes- courtesy of Modcloth)
Today I woke up feeling a little under the weather, but thankfully I had a day off this week so I decided to take it today and worked from home.
Later on Sam and I decided to run a few errands and it was marvelous having my maxi dress around. It only takes a few seconds of browsing the bloggersphere and Chictopia to realize how trendy maxi dresses are. I saw at least 3 on the first page of the Chictopia style gallery alone. This trendyness does not make them any less comfortable and honestly this is one trend I'm all over right now. I was able to get dressed in 5 minutes and with no coffee, a feat even Sam was impressed by.
As we ran our errands we stopped at our favorite local haunts.
My poison was LeftOvers, the best consignment furniture store over on Polk, where I immediatly found the chez lounge of my dreams that was way out of our budget. Sam stopped into Blick, one of his favorite art supply stores, to pick up some paints.
While walking home we noticed a sign for $1 nigiri sushi and decided this was a meal we could not pass up.
Now to keep myself from getting sick this week, lots of vitamin C and tea.
Have you guys noticed I spend like 75% of my life sick? Haha, I have the worst immune system ever :(

Tips for Styling Maxi Dresses

1. Find one that is the right length, longer is better than shorter.
2. Pair with summer heels and socks.
3. Keep the silhouettes simple and streamlined.
4. Pair with short or cropped jackets.
5. Cinch at the waist to create a flattering shape.
6. Don't over accessorize a patterned or colorful maxi, it's already a whole lot of look.
6. Pair with some oversized chandelier earrings for a nighttime look.

I changed the titles of posts to a fancy font, does it show up for you?

On Repeat

(pants- from Crossroads Trading Co, clutch-Marc by Marc Jacobs via Crossroads Trading Co, ring- courtesy of floreal designs, rope bracelet-courtesy of Threadsence by Moussy, watch-courtesy of ModCloth, shoes-Cynthia Vincent for Target)
A variation on yesterday's look. These pants are made of sweatpant material but look like real trousers. Love them.

I decided to re-post my article for Chictopia's EIU blog. Enjoy.

One of my favorite trends right now is the menswear inspired look. There is something distinctly sexy and feminine about an androgynous outfit on a woman. To wear a simple menswear look is to attest to your own confidence, femininity and power. It is like saying to the world “I am sexy” without showing much of anything.

To say that this look is easy to pull off would be a vast understatement. This look requires more than just the right pieces, it requires your garments to be impeccably tailored, fitted and proportioned. Although the look is best achieved with well-constructed key pieces, it can still be done on a tight budget.

I’ve been playing around with menswear inspired looks for a while now, and although I am no expert, I’d like to offer a few styling tips on how to get the look. The main point to consider before beginning to style is the level of androgyny you’re going for. Do you want to use menswear pieces but in a feminine way? Do you want a strictly menswear look? Or do you fall some where in the middle? My looks usually fall on the more feminine side of the spectrum. When you have picked where on the spectrum your look will fall, you can begin building the outfit with key pieces. Once you have the “skeleton” of the outfit, move on to accessories. The last step to the look is hair and make-up, don’t underestimate the importance of these two as they can make or break your look.

Key Pieces

1. Trousers

2. Blazer

3. Button Down

4. Men's style shorts

5. Oxfords

Tips on styling the Key Pieces

1. Pick anywhere from 1 to 4 of the key pieces for the skeleton of your look.

2. How many key pieces you choose will depend on the level of androgyny you’re going for.

3. Pick Key Pieces in neutral tones, save the color for accessories.

4. Create a strong shoulder with a blazer and some shoulder pads.

5. Avoid wearing a dark pant and matching blazer or you run the risk of looking too businessy.

6. You can pair these pieces with different textures and fabrics like lace and silk to play up the feminine qualities of the look.

Key Accessories

1. A men’s watch

2. Fold over clutch

3. Scarf

4. Socks

5. A tie

Styling tips for the Key Accessories

1. Keep accessories to a minimum to maintain the clean and simple lines associated with menswear.

2. Choose statement pieces like a structured clutch or a large watch.

3. Use accessories as a way to add color or pattern to the look.

Styling Tips for Hair and Make-Up

1. Consider the hair and make up to be like the frosting on a cupcake.

2. Keep make-up in the neutral color palette.

3. A pink lip and disheveled hair can be a great way to add a little softens, while a slicked back bun and nude lips will do the opposite.

The main rule to remember is “Have Fun!”, it’s only fashion.

Funny Face

(pants & sash- courtesy of American Apparel, Pink Floyd tee-vintage, silver tee & necklace-h&m,
shoes-Cynthia Vincent for Target, bag- Marc by Marc Jacobs)
I noticed Sam's Pink Floyd tee yesterday morning and instantly knew it had to be incorporated into an outfit. Since I knew I'd be flying to LA later in the evening, I wanted to keep my outfit comfortable and relaxed. I decided to play around with layering and loosely cinched my waist to add a little shape to the layered tees.
To be fair, the shoes weren't part of the outfit until Nancy, an intern at Chictopia, brought these into the office. She decided they weren't for her, so I swooped them up. I think they add a much needed pop of color and pattern to the look.

Tips for flying in style
*Just because you're on an airplane doesn't mean you have to slack on style.
*Dress for unexpected temperature changes.
*Play around with loose layers.
*Wear pants that have some stretch, but make sure they're not too stretchy.
You don't want to end up with saggy knees and butt.
*Don't wear heels or flip flops. The former is uncomfortable, the latter unsanitary.
Opt for ballet flats or flat oxfords.
*Avoid belts.
*A darker color palette is more forgiving when pesky turbulence causes a spill.
*Your go to look:
Dark jeggings, loose tee, a denim button down, leather jacket and flat oxfords.

Speaking of funny faces, Funny Face is one of my favorite films.

Electric

(via stylesightings)
Lusting over anything electric blue right now.
A show stopping color to say the least.

*Update*
Tips on wearing electric blue
* Pair this color with white or nude to tone down the look
*Don't be afraid to mix it with prints like leopard, it's practically a neutral.
*Although a top seems like an easier piece to wear, an electric blue pant or skirt
will be easier to style with a neutral top.
*Check out how I styled my electric blue skirt here

Simple Shades

(dress-Riller & Foust via Tobi.com, lace trim dress worn underneath-Boy Meets Girl, stockings-h&m, shoes-JC courtesy of NeedSupply, opal ring & sweater- Modcloth, studded ring & rhinestone ring-Nastygal, pearl ring & black ring-vintage, scarf-AA, belt-bf's)
Today Sam and I went out on a lunch date, strolled the Yerba Beuna Gardens and played arcade games at the Metreon. It was a chilly, but beautiful day. It was a weekday outing in celebration of my new job as a Junior Copywriter at Tobi.com. I am really excited to have a new job, but I will also continue modeling for Tobi and interning at Chictopia.
I blogged about the shoes I am wearing today a few weeks ago, and the folks over at NeedSupply were kind enough to send me a pair. They are my new favorites and are just as comfortable as the 99 zips.

If you have a moment please pop over to Modcloth and NeedSupply to check out my features!
And check out my adorable namesake dress at Modcloth, it's really thrilling to have such a beautiful dress made in honor of my blog!

Spring Styling Tips
*Experiment with socks. Scrunch them down, double them up, or wear them over the knees.
Perfect paired with wooden platforms.
*Go for floral patterns, even dark florals feel fresh for springtime.
*Pull out the pastels and get crazy, but mix them with neutrals to avoid looking
like an Easter egg.
*Light wash denim is an easy way to lighten up for spring.
* Swap grey for black.
*Try out pearls for a ladylike touch.
* Cat eye and round sunglasses are a must have for the season.
*Instead of denim cutoffs go for high-waisted leather shorts.
*Mix and match your prints. The trick here is to pick only one dominant pattern
and keep the colors complimentary.

Call Me Legs

(boots-Jamin Leather, lace catsuit-AA, dress-stylestalker, blazer-UO, faux fur collar-H&M, rings-Nastygal, bracelet & necklace-F21)
I finally got my pair of thigh high boots. They are super tall, real leather and cost less than $100.
Where did I find them you ask?
Jamin Leather, your premier discount leather and biker store.
The credit for finding these bad boys belongs to Tamara, the styling assistant at Tobi.com.
I am so happy she told me about them because I was starting to give up hope.
This is a little outfit I put together when the boots arrived.

Styling Tip: I think it's best to keep the look simple when styling these show stoppers, so I paired them with my lace catsuit courtesy of American Apparel and a simple white tank dress that the folks over st Style Stalker sent me. I think the blazer gives it a more polished look while the fur adds a touch of luxury.

On a side note...Have you guys heard about the Chictopia 10 Social Influence Summit? It's taking place in NY during fashion week, and I will be one of the panel speakers along with a few amazing bloggers and industry power players.
You can enter the Chictopia10 contest for your chance to win a trip to the conference or you can buy your tickets online.
Just click my Chictopia 10 banner (upper left hand corner) for more info.
P.S. My chictopia name is Playing with Fire...for those of you who are a bit confused and do not see Late Afternoon on the conference page.

Linear Solutions

(pants-American Apparel, silk tee-vintage, jacket-H&M, shoes-Bebe, socks-American Apparel)
American Apparel sent me these amazing striped trousers and these heart socks. Both of these items are excatly what I have been looking for.

Styling Tip: When wearing high waisted pants that are tapered and voluminous keep in mind proportions. Pair them with cropped jackets and simple tops that keep the silhouette simple and lean.

I need my hair colored like NOW!

What I wish I was wearing

(shorts-vintage, corset-F21, blazer- Silence and Noise, stockings-H&M, shoes- Banana Republic, watches-vintage, bracelet-F21, ring-Cossroads, rosary-Shotwell)
I have always had a hard time dressing myself for the rain and the last few days it has been raining and storming like crazy in the Bay. How the hell are you supposed to look cute and stay warm while getting dumped on? Impossible....well for me at least.
This outfit is my f*ck you to the rain. It's what I would be wearing if it wasn't raining.
These leather shorts are a must for every wardrobe. They possess the uncanny ability to transform an outfit from boring to edgy in .5 of a second (that last part I totally made up, but really go get some). I have been wearing mine none stop and plan to continue wearing them until they completely fall apart.

Styling Tips for Leather Shorts

*Swap your skirt for a pair of leather shorts
*Pair them with oversized sweaters
* Wear fishnets underneath for a sexy nighttime look
*Play around with texture by mixing leather and lace
*Leather and leopard were made for each other
*Add a blazer for a more polished look
*Wear with red lips and messy hair to get that rock and roll cool

Winter Needs Some Sex

So lets throw on our hot pants and thighs highs, and give winter some sex.

But seriously, you know what I am talking about here.

The beautiful and stylish Lindsey Calla from Saucy Glossie named my blog as one of her favorites in her recent feature in Japanese magazine, Glamorous. Take a look at her feature and blog at Saucy Glossie.

P.S. I think this post was inspired by my recent strip club outing...
