Sam and I spent our New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in San Francisco. Whenever we’re in the city by the bay a feeling of nostalgia washes over eyes. We always spend our time doing all of the things we used to do and visiting the places we loved. For our stay we rented a room in a hotel directly across from our very first SF apartment. We had dinner at our favorite French cafe, Café de la Presse, and drinks at our favorite dive bars, Owl Tree and Kozy Kar. We popped into our favorite Korean spot, Cocobang, for a late night snack before heading down to the Embarcadero to watch the fireworks. The next day we woke up to have breakfast at our favorite hole in the wall diner, Golden Coffee, before strolling through our favorite streets for hours. We popped into our favorite cheese shop, Cheese Plus on Polk for lunch. Dinner was burritos from you guessed it, our favorite Mexican counter, El Sol. As we visited our old haunts we recounted the days when life was simpler, rent was cheaper, we were younger, and responsibilities weren’t as heavy. It was a great time in our lives and one we will always look back on with fond eyes.

Do you have that special time in you life you wish you could revisit even just for a short time?

Happy New Year!

2017 was not a great year for many of us. I’ve personally spent much of the year trying to get my anxiety disorder under control and dealing with insane landlords. 2018 isn’t going to erase any of the problems we’re facing, but the new year brings hope and with it a renewed desire for change.

Here’s to a bigger and better year. May it bring you joy, adventure, and good health.

There’s only a few days left in the year and with that in mind Sam and I decided to skip town. For the last week we’ve been slowly making our way up the coast. We spent a few days at a family beach house in Ventura before finding our way to our favorite spot in Carmel, Carmel Valley Ranch. Next we’re stopping by Santa Cruz for a second Christmas with Sam’s family, followed by a trip up to San Francisco to celebrate NYE at our favorite SF haunts.

This year has not been an easy one. I’ve spent the last few months reimagining the direction of my blog. Before the year is through, I would love to hear from you. What do you want to see more of? What would you like to see less of? I want to hear from you! Leave me a comment, email me, or message me on Instagram.

How many of you have been with me long enough to remember my days of modeling at NastyGal? It was years ago when the blog was only a year old, NastyGal was a team of 6 people, and we were living in San Francisco. Sophia scouted me through my blog and for the next year I was a regular NastyGal, shooting twice a week. I look back on those day with immense fondness. I remember when Stacey the stylist, Paul the photographer, Nick the styling assistant and I the model would take the Bart back into the city after a full day of shooting. We all wore black, lots of leather, and were asked if we were in a band almost once a week. The days were long but always filled with tears-in-your-eyes laughter.

When I saw this tinsel fringed vegan leather jacket, it instantly took me back to my NastyGal days. I saw myself twirling in it, I heard Paul telling me to drop my chin and look left. I could feel Stacy and Nick eyeing me up and down, debating whether to add a leather glove or a statement ring. I could see Sophia peering out of her office ready to restyle the entire look, a perfectionist in ripped up band tees and Alexander Wang boots.  It was exhilarating, exhausting, and unforgettable.

Is there a time in your life that you look back at and almost wish you could go back?

The best part about winter is all the holidays. My personal favorite has always been New Year’s Eve. Ever since I was a child my parents would throw huge NYE parties for all of their friends. As kids this was the only night of the year when we were allowed to stay up far past midnight and join in on the celebration. It’s become such a tradition that our family friends have stopped making any other plans years ago.

Over the years, I too have become the go-to planner for New Year’s Eve with my friends. Every year I get together a group of friends and we go all out, complete with confetti, sparklers, balloons and anything else you can think of.  Since this night is a pretty big deal for me, I always start planning my outfit early. I’ve been eyeing these Jimmy Choo velvet platforms and after finding this gown, I decided they would be the perfect pair of holiday shoes, especially for the old Hollywood themed New Year’s Eve party I’m planning. It doesn’t hurt they are also perfect for my Christmas Eve dress as well as the dress I plan on wearing for my birthday next month.
