pumpkins-1 pumpkins-2 pumpkins-3 pumpkins-4Sam and I have always shared a love for Halloween. It’s not even the dressing up that we love most it’s the silly decorations and the pumpkins that get us every time. Our house is the only one on the block that is decorated and it has been since the beginning of October. I don’t f*ck around when it comes to Halloween decorations. The cheesier and tackier, the better!

Having established our love of Halloween I wanted to share our pumpkins from this year. I think they are our best ones yet.  Corpse Bride is my all time favorite Tim Burton film and I have always dreamed of dressing up as the characters. For now this will have to be enough. I will take credit for the spray painting portion of our creations, but the rest is all Sam putting his fine art degree to use. Sam hand made the palm tree stencil that you can download for yourself here –  Stencil.

I’m really excited to share today’s new hair video in collaboration with GHD and their award-winning GHD Gold Professional Styler which has been give a retro makeover to support women battling cancer. Each sale of this styler contributes $5 to Look Good Feel Better. The program focuses on improving the self-esteem and quality of life of women undergoing cancer treatment. It’s a wonderful cause and a great product. A win all around.
I’ve been using my GHD styler for years but I’ve only recently mastered this curling technique thanks to my hair guru, Alexis. We’ve teamed up to create this hair tutorial as a quick guide to getting those messy waves I love so much. The GHD styler works particularly well here as it is made to smoothly glide through the hair. The key to this is to slide the styler down each strand of hair while twisting the hair and styler away from the face. Once you get the feel of it, it becomes second nature. Check out the DIY video below and grab your own styler here.

With Easter just around the corner I’ve started to put together my gift baskets for our extended family. This year, instead of gifting just a mass amount of coma inducing sugar, I’ve decided to fill my baskets up with little DIY projects and charming but useful little trinkets.
Each basket comes with my coffee and honey scrub ( 2 tbsp coffee grounds for every 1 tbsp honey, makes for an excellent de-puffer), a freshly potted succulent, a candle holder filled with peeps, salt water taffy, and little egg holders containing pastel colored EOS lip balms.

Hey guys, here’s a perfect idea for an indoor succulent/herb garden. The trick is to repurpose the plastic containers that the plants come in by crumpling them up and sticking them in the bottom of a vase (thanks go to Life With Bess for the tip).  This creates a natural irrigation for the plants if your vase does not have any drainage holes.  Scroll down for a photo tutorial and DIY video.

As I’ve mentioned many times before I love NYE. Over the years I’ve become an expert at throwing an end of the year bash comprised of champagne, confetti, and a countdown. Below are my 3 easy breezy DIY ideas for your NYE soirée – spill proof champagne sippy cups, eco-friendly confetti, and champagne popsicles. You can impress everyone and still get charmingly drunk buzzed.
First up are my sippy cups.  Basically they’re just mini mason jars that have been spray painted gold and black. The trick is to use a single hole punch to make a hole in the lid for your straw. It’s like 99999999% air tight. Minimal spills and minimal stale champagne smell the morning after.
Don’t even try to pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about. Stale champagne (errrr sparkling wine) is the worst.
Dried lavender actually makes for incredible eco-friendly-biodegradable-vegan-save-the-earth confetti. You still have to clean it up but it won’t kill the dolphins (*I can’t promise this, so please don’t hold me to it). Most importantly it still looks great in pictures (no pictures – no proof).
Last but not least are my champagne popsicles.  Super easy to make but require a couple of hours in the freezer to set.
Ingredients :
1 cup powdered sugar
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup water
2.5 cups Champagne or Sparkling Wine
Blueberries for garnish
12 dixie cups
12 popsicle sticks
Makes 12

Directions :
An hour before starting, freeze your blueberries. In a small sauce pan bring to a boil the water, sugar, and lemon. Simmer over low heat until the sugar melts and you have created a simple syrup. Mix the simple syrup with the champagne and pour an even amount into each dixie cup. Place a popsicle stick in each cup, drop in a few frozen blueberries, and secure the sticks in place with tape. Freeze for at least 5 hours. Once they’re ready to serve simply cut away the dixie cups. Voilà,  you have created sexy champagne popsicles. Maybe not sexy, but definitely delicious.
Champagne popsicles are not for dogs. Don’t waste the alcohol.
I hope you all have had an amazing 2014 and I hope you have an amazing time ringing in 2015!
