Dog Day Afternoon

The weather this weekend was absolutely perfect. I spent the entire weekend with all of my favorite people and in my beloved leopard shorts. Aimee and I took our doggies to the park yesterday and as you can see from the pics our puppies have become the best of friends.

Take it Back

I want my house to look like the 1st image.

Colors taste like fashion

(via google images)
Wayne Thiebaud is one of my favorite artists. I adore not only his subject matter, pop culture and commonplace objects, but also his exaggerated color palette and textured painting technique. Much of my use of color in the outfits I put together is inspired by the color palettes of Contemporary and Impressionist painters. I find that there is very little separation between fine art and fashion. The only visible difference is that one form is hung on the wall while the other is worn. Finding inspiration in art is no different than finding it within the pages of Italian Vogue. Of course I am not trying to imply that the looks I put together are somehow equivalent to the masterpieces produced by artists like Thiebaud. I am merely suggesting that there is a an artist in each of us and that inspiration can be drawn form an object as commonplace as a tube of lipstick or in this case a Wayne Thiebaud painting.

It's a matter of opinion

I adore a good floral blazer. I received this one courtesy of Susan from Persephone Vintage and love it to pieces. It's light, airy and perfect for summer layering. I really like the way it pairs my grey jeans. I am also truly obsessed with my blue clutch, it seems to fit perfectly into my life and goes well with every outfit. Same can be said for the Gap shoes. I'm all about playing favorites with my pieces.

Today all the girls at the Chictopia office decided to take a field trip out to the Nordstom half yearly sale. I of course could not resist the shoe section and walked out with a pair of black Jeffrey Campbells. Kristine, who happens to have baby feet, found a pair of delicious Vera Wang Lavender Collection wedges. I truly hate her for having such tiny feet, not fair.

I feel like a Twinkie...I think I'll go eat one after I am done with this post.

Swimming is what you do so you don't drown

Truthfully the weather has been way too terrible to wear this outfit, but I wanted to wear it while I pranced around in our basement. I can't wait for the weather to get warm enough so I can actually wear these shorts outside. I've been dying to wear them. For the record our basement is super warm and full of treasures, it's kind of the ideal hang out when it's raining other than the fact that it smell like trash. The lighting is pretty terrible so excuse the sub par pictures.
FYI My title for this post came from the Woody Allen film I'm watching while I write this post.

Art & LeftOvers

Today I woke up feeling a little under the weather, but thankfully I had a day off this week so I decided to take it today and worked from home.
Later on Sam and I decided to run a few errands and it was marvelous having my maxi dress around. It only takes a few seconds of browsing the bloggersphere and Chictopia to realize how trendy maxi dresses are. I saw at least 3 on the first page of the Chictopia style gallery alone. This trendyness does not make them any less comfortable and honestly this is one trend I'm all over right now. I was able to get dressed in 5 minutes and with no coffee, a feat even Sam was impressed by.
As we ran our errands we stopped at our favorite local haunts.
My poison was LeftOvers, the best consignment furniture store over on Polk, where I immediatly found the chez lounge of my dreams that was way out of our budget. Sam stopped into Blick, one of his favorite art supply stores, to pick up some paints.
While walking home we noticed a sign for $1 nigiri sushi and decided this was a meal we could not pass up.
Now to keep myself from getting sick this week, lots of vitamin C and tea.
Have you guys noticed I spend like 75% of my life sick? Haha, I have the worst immune system ever :(

Tips for Styling Maxi Dresses

1. Find one that is the right length, longer is better than shorter.
2. Pair with summer heels and socks.
3. Keep the silhouettes simple and streamlined.
4. Pair with short or cropped jackets.
5. Cinch at the waist to create a flattering shape.
6. Don't over accessorize a patterned or colorful maxi, it's already a whole lot of look.
6. Pair with some oversized chandelier earrings for a nighttime look.

I changed the titles of posts to a fancy font, does it show up for you?

There is a light and it never goes out

(pants-Surface to Air, shoes- Pierre Hardy for Gap, top-H&M, sweater-courtesy of Modcloth, rope bracelet-Mousy from Threadsence)
Spent a lovely Sunday shopping with Laura from OntheRacks followed by a doggy play date at the park with Aimee, Laura and our doggies. Obsessed with these new peach pants by Surface to Air, I've worn them twice already and only bought them on Thursday.

As I write this post I am wearing my new maxi dress from the H&M Fashion Against AIDS collection and have decided that it will be my new lounging attire. Throwing on this maxi is as easy as putting on sweatpants and I don't look half as crazy when I suddenly get the urge to run to Walgreens for some shrimp flavored chips and seaweed. Sometimes I go outside, usually for a Walgreens or a burrito run, and realize that the prostitutes on the corner (not joking here, my corner is the place to be if you're a prostitute) look better than I do. I am hoping this maxi dress will solve that problem.

This Post has been re-edited due to a matter brought to my attention by a few readers.
Thanks for pointing this out to me and I apologize if I offended anyone.

hanging out

San Francisco weather has once again spoiled my plans of a weekend at the park. I have resigned myself to another lazy Saturday in bed with my honey, a delicious sandwich from down the street and the wonders of the Internet. The above image is not only how I feel, but also what I'd be wearing had I any inclination to get out of my warm cozy apartment and brave the miserable wind outside.

Lara Stone might just be my favorite model of the moment. Something about her alien like lack of eyebrows mesmerizes me.

Sleepy Sun

(via studdedhearts)
I want this to be me all weekend long. Lounging and soaking up the sun.
SF weather take note, no wind and cold air is allowed this weekend. Thanks.

P.S. Emailing the contest winner later today... will disclose the details later.

FYI Come Undone by Duran Duran is one of my ALL TIME favorite songs. Period. The video is pretty epic.
A few of you have asked me what camera I use and I wanted to address that question. I use a Canon Rebel XSI and have a few different lenses for it but nothing fancy.
I had something worthwhile I wanted to talk about in this post, but it's midnight and my brain is mushy.

Knock, knock. Who's there? Chicken butt.
