Caught By the Wind

(dress-vintage, shoes-DP, tights- Nordstroms, belt-thrifted)
I found this dress during a recent shopping outing to the vintage stores on Haight. At first glance it looked tacky and too big, but on closer inspection I found it full of possibilities. I got rid of the tacky rhinestones that edged the collar and cut out the extra large shoulder pads. I also swapped the matching belt with this extra long brown one. To create a more modern silhouette I decided to wear the dress backwards. These small alterations made a huge difference and this dress has a new life. That is the key to vintage and thrifted items, you have to look beyond what's on the hanger and see their potential.

Tips for Vintage and Thrift Store Shopping
*Know when to save and when to save- the Goodwill and a small vintage boutique probably won't have the same thing for the same price.
*Stores like the Goodwill are good for thrifted basics and DIYs. Vintage shops are perfect for specialty items.
* Go in with a clear idea of what items you are looking for- it's easy to get overwhelmed.
* Go to the cheaper thrift stores first then move your up.

What do you guys think about the larger picture format? Should I make all my pics this size?

Still Life

(silk shirt-thrifted, pants-thrifted, shoes-thrifted, bag- vintage)
I have an exciting announcement- Late Afternoon is going to NY Fashion Week! I will be blogging and twittering live from the tents. I am extremely thrilled to be going and obviously have began obsessing over what to wear. I get a little nauseous just thinking about all the impeccably dressed people who will be there.
I just bought these peep toe boots, fell in love while wearing them, and I think they will be joining me in NYFW.

Happy Tuesday!

A Sunny Disposition

I love this girl's style. She has an eye for vintage and knows how to put together a great outfit. Also notice her adorable haircut, makes me want to chop mine off.

Your style in 3 words? Daring, feminine, vintage!

Where do you get your fashion inspiration? Every inch of the big wide world. From the people on the street to bus stop advertisements clad with gorgeous models. Fashion magazines and other fabulous blogs would be my main sources of inspiration at the moment though.

Lace and Acid Wash

I spent my time in LA at a friend's house in Westwood. We had a blast running around the city and doing all sorts of LA activities, mainly shopping, playing golf in Beverly Hills and visiting dive bars that were not nearly as divy as one could hope. I also got a chance to go the American Apparel factory and meet their creative director. It was a really cool experience to witness where all of the infamous AA ads are created.
The best part of the trip was when I found this jumper that belonged to my friend's grandma. It fits perfect and did not cost a penny. Thanks Ali (thats Ali next to me).

Smokey Lights

(shorts-thrifted, shirt-ZARA, belt-H&M, shoes- UO, socks-drug store, sunglasses-vintage)
Today we drove down to LA and on the way stopped to snap some pictures. The nearby fires in Santa Barbara made the sunlight look stunning (hope the fires are contained and no one is hurt).
For the car ride I slipped on my acid-wash denim shorts and a loose top. I styled this simple duo with a belt and ankle socks. I like how the belt over the untucked shirt gives the outfit a bit of a disheveled feel, kinda how I was feeling this morning.

Since I have been traveling a lot these past few weeks I though I'd share my little tips for efficient summer packing.
* Pack light, airy pieces for easy layering; tanks, breathy dresses, loose shirts.
* Pack belts, silk scarves, and hats to add variety to your looks.
*Pack a key jacket that can be used to go with differnet looks; denim or leather jackets and boyfriend blazers are a great option.
*Pack your favorite shoes.
* Always pack a pair of trusty jeans.

What are your go to pieces for traveling?

Flying Squirrel

I am back from my trip and I must say it was exactly what I needed.

This pic here is just a little glimpse into the real person behind this blog. This is me being a flying squirrel...
I am much sillier than I let on...
Also we have a winner for the contest I ran two weeks ago. The winning comment is number 47 out of 64 comments. I'll be contacting the winner later today.

Out of Town

(This is totally how I cook dinner and do the dishes. No really, try it. I feel pretty sexy cleaning my studio in lingerie.)

Tonight I will leaving for my long awaited mini vacation. Right after work we are jumping in the car and driving off to an old logging camp above Yosemite National Park. The cabin is one of 20 log cabins situated in the middle of the forest, surrounded by lush greenery and bursting underground springs. There is no phone service, no internet, and the nearest town is about an hour away. It is my idea of perfection. I can already smell the sweet scent of the redwoods and can almost hear the gurgling of the waterfalls.

This will be my last post until Monday. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Thinking of trying out a bondage inspired look.

I am also considering trying out a hairnet. I am not sure how I am going to style it yet but it will happen.

Getting Cultured

(blazer- thrifted, blouse-thrifted, leggings- AA, shoes-UO, bag-UO)
On every first Tuesday of the month many of the SF museums are free, thus this morning we packed a picnic and scurried off to Golden Gate Park to visit the De Young and the Conservatory of Flowers. On our way home we stopped by a Russian deli and picked up some homemade Russian goodies. A nicer day I could not have imagined.

As you can see I finally found the perfect pink blazer. It is the prettiest shade of pink and an easy way to brighten up a simple outfit. This little beauty only cost me 2.99. ThriftTown is my new best friend.

I hope everyone had a lovely Tuesday.

Please check out my feature over at Little Sweet Hearts. Thanks Karen!

Lounging in Red

(dress- American Apparel)

I spent this weekend recovering from Friday night's adventure. Late night beer runs, pizza runs, and senseless dancing lead to laziness. Saturday I stalked the SFMOMA with my visiting friend and Sunday was spent prancing around the studio in my little AA dress. The only accomplishments for this weekend were our trip to the Japanese market and the delicious Japanese dinners I cooked.

I really want to go somewhere, I haven't really had a break since I graduated and a vacation would be a welcome relief. I am dreaming of the cabin, tucked away in the middle of the redwoods, surrounded by cascading waterfalls and warm sunlight abound.
